Underfloor heating (UFH)

in and around Lymington and Havering

Underfloor heating (UFH) is an excellent way to heat your home or bathroom. There are two main types of underfloor heating, water based running from your central heating system via an additional pump and manifold/blender and a heat mat running from your electrical supply.

Water based UFH is best installed in new builds or extensions where it can be laid in the cement screed. There are also retrofit water based UFH systems where the pipes are laid on top of existing floorboards. Controls for UFH systems can be very similar to those for central heating with options for simple thermostats and timers to web based systems like hive and Nest. A water temperature blender is required to ensure that the floor does not get too hot.

Consideration should be given to the fact that screed based UFH is not able to react quickly to changes in heat demand. The systems heat up slowly and cool down slowly.

Electrical based systems use a mat under the flooring (usually tiles) to warm the floor. Controls need to have a floor probe to ensure the floor does not get too hot. Without the temperature probe the floor could overheat and crack tiles or cause the floor to get uncomfortably hot.
